Summer poncho crochet pattern
One rectangle measures 40 by 80 cm. Begin with a chain that’s about 40 cm long. Make sure your number of stitches can be divided by 8. Add another 4 chains.
I used 88 + 4 = 92 chains for my rectangle.
Row 1 | sc in 2nd ch from the hook; sc in the other chains. Turn. |
Row 2 | Ch 3 (= 1st dc); dc in next 2 st ; skip next 2 st; (dc – ch 2 – dc) in next st; |
skip next 2 st; *dc in next 3 st; skip next 2 st; (dc – ch 2 – dc) in next st;
skip next 2 st. Repeat from * and end with 3 dc. Turn.
Row 3 | Ch 3 (= 1st dc); dc in next 2 st; *shell in chain space; dc in next 3 st. |
Repeat from *. Turn. | |
Row 4 | Ch 3 (=1st dc); 2 dc; * (dc – ch 2 – dc) in chain space of the shell |
you made in round 3; ch 1; dc in next 3 st. Repeat from *. Turn.
Row 5 | Like round 3. |
Repeat row 4 and 5 until your rectangle is 80 cm long.
End with a row 5 . Then crochet a row like described:
Ch 3(=1st dc); dc in next 2 st; *Ch 2- sc in middle of the shell; ch 2; dc in next 3 dc.
Repeat from * until the end of the row. Ch 1 and turn.
Crochet an edge around the rectangle like this:
Top: sc in next 3 dc; *2 sc in chain space; sc in sc; 2 sc in chain space; sc in next 3 dc. Repeat from * until the end of the row.
Your number of stitches should be one less than the chain you made in the beginning.
For instance: I chained 92 and have 91 st left.
Continue on the long side of the rectangle and crochet a sc in each dc.
Continue on the bottom and crochet a sc in each st.
Continue on the other long side and crochet a sc in each dc. Close the round and fasten off.
Crochet another rectangle in the same way.
Sewing the poncho together.
This tutorial shows you how to sew your poncho together. You have to scroll down a bit to see how it’s put together.
Finishing
Crochet an edge at the bottom of the poncho:
sc in the first stitch;
Chain 4, sl st in the first loop of the chain;
Sc in next stitch.
*sc in next stitch; Chain 4, sl st in the first loop of the chain.
Sc in next stitch;
Repeat from * across and close with a sl st. Fasten off and weave in the ends.
