This new year bun beanie crochet pattern can be used for a normal beanie or a bun beanie!

Materials
worsted weight yarn, two colors
glitter yarn (I used drops glitter yarn)

Abbreviations (US)
ch = chain
st = stitch
dc = double crochet
fpdc = front post double crochet
2 dctog = 2 double crochet together (decrease)

Happy new year (bun) crochet pattern

Brim
Use green yarn and the glitter yarn.
Ch 80 and close to form a ring.

Round 1
Dc in each chain (=80 st)

Round 2
Crochet: *dc – fpdc*
Repeat *-* until the end of the round and close.

Round 3/4
Repeat round 2.

Round 5
sc in each st (80)

I used this chart:

Each square is made by 2 dc. So the first row begins with 13 green squares, that’s 26 green dc.
In this tutorial you can see how the colors are changed.

I started my hat with a round of only green dc. But if I’d make one again, I would skip that row and start with the pattern. The hat will be a bit smaller then.

Follow the chart.

Round 12
Crochet: *dc – dc – 2 dctog*. Repeat *-* until the end of the round. (63 st)

Round 13
Crochet: *dc – 2 dctog*.Repeat *-* until the end of the round. (42 st)

Round 14
Crochet: *2 dctog*. Repeat *-* until the end of the round. (21 st)
If you want a bun beanie, you end here. Fasten off and weave in the ends.
If you prefer a normal beanie, you continue:

Round 15
Crochet 2 dctog. Then crochet 1 dc in each st (20)

Round 16
Crochet: *2 dctog*. Repeat *-* until the end of the round. (10 st)
Fasten off and leave a tail. Use the tail to close the hat. Weave in the ends.
